Judge Julie A. Palafox will conduct 1.5 to 2 hours of FREE training on the Hague Abduction Convention.

Guest speakers include Jim Bacin, District Attorney with the Orange County District Attorney's Office and Corrin M. Ferber, Director of Office of Legal Affairs for Overseas Citizen Services, Bureau of Consular Affairs, Department of State.

More than 90% of these cases involve custody cases from Mexico and usually the parent who fled needs an attorney.

The 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction is a legal framework for courts to use to return a removed or retained child to the country of his or her habitual residence.

  • Discourage abduction
  • Requires prompt return to habitual residence if child is wrongfully removed or retained in foreign country, subject to certain, limited defenses
  • Protect visitation/access rights
Currently operates between the United States and 74 partner countries.
